There may be a miss-perception that bed & breakfast accommodation is inferior to that of guest houses! There are many excellent bed & breakfast establishments offering the same high standards and graded by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) using the same grading criteria - the only difference being that they are not expected to serve meals other than breakfast.

The same standards as with guest houses will apply
Owner/manager usually lives in the house or on the property
Accommodation may be in a separate house which is used only by guests
No meals other than breakfast offered
Bathroom facilities preferably en-suite and/or private
No minimum or maximum rooms
May also offer self-catering rooms

HOMESTAY options is where you are likely to stay in the same house with the family, the emphasis on experiencing South African family life. The guest may have to share some public areas with the host family
