Bloubergstrand is a suburb of
Cape Town located on the shores of Table Bay, about 25km to the north of the city centre - about 20 minutes drive from the Cape Town city centre and about 30 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. The greater Blaauwberg region stretches from Milnerton in the south to Mamre in the north and also includes Blouberg, Table View, Century City and Big Bay. It is the gateway to the seafood mecca of the Cape West Coast.
Mainly residential and attracts large numbers of visitors, both local and from abroad. Bloubergstrand is known for its white sandy beaches and the location from which the classic view of Table Mountain is seen on many postcards and pictures. Bloubergstrand in Afrikaans means "blue mountain beach", a hill not far inland from the coast.
The beaches such as Blouberg and Big Bay is ideal for a refreshing swim in the Atlantic Ocean and provide some of the Cape's most popular surfing, windsurfing and surf angling spots. Big Bay is a surfers paradise and hosts several national and international competitions while Little Bay is a family beach suitable for sunbathers.
The decisive Battle of Blaauwberg took place near here in 1806. The British defeated the defending Dutch forces and occupied the Cape Colony.
