Bed & Breakfast Accommodation
There may be a perception that bed & breakfast accommodation is inferior to that of guest houses! Be assured that there are many excellent bed & breakfast establishments offering the same standards as guest houses, the only difference being that they do not serve meals other than breakfast.
- The same standards as with guest houses will apply
- Owner/manager usually lives in the house or on the property
- Accommodation may be in a separate house which is used only by guests
- No meals other than breakfast offered
- Bathroom facilities preferably en-suite and/or private
- No minimum or maximum rooms
- May also offer self catering rooms
HOMESTAY options is where you are likely to stay in the same house with the family, the emphasis on experiencing South African family life
The guest may have to share some public areas with the host family
Guest House Accommodation
A guest house is run as a commercial operation and is often owner-managed
A personalized service and homely atmosphere with ambience familiar only to guest houses
24 hour contactable by telephone or cell phone
Lunch and/or dinner available on request
Usually offers public areas which are for the exclusive use of guests
Owner/manager either lives off-site or in a separate area within the property
Preferably a minimum of 5 rooms to maximum 12
Hotel Accommodation
Hotel-style accommodation with well-designed rooms and public areas, may be small or large and likely to have conference/banqueting facilities. A la carte dining, 24-hour room service and reception, bars, concierge facilities, gift/curio shop(s), pool, gym on site, top quality décor and the highest service standards will be found in luxury 4-5 star hotels. Primarily aimed at holiday makers but also accommodating conference visitors, business travellers and touring groups.
Lodge Accommodation
This accommodation must be of the highest standard, set in peaceful surroundings either in town or in the country. Furnishings, ambience, food preparation and service should be of exceptional quality. Can be small or large but whatever the size, personalised service is of the utmost importance. Game lodges are also in this catergory where the game experience is central to the guests' stay. Generally within a reserve offering game drives and all meals etc. as part of the inclusive rate.
Self Catering Accommodation
Self catering accommodation is becoming more popular in South Africa because of the excellent value for money that you can expect. If you prefer absolute privacy and like to look after yourself, there is no better way to enjoy your well-earned vacation. The Accommodation Africa Online Self Catering options are rapidly expanding through the Garden Route, the Western Cape and the rest of South Africa.
Self Catering Apartment or Suite Accommodation
Self catering units including a fully-equipped kitchen. May be a high rise building and generally do not have a restaurant or many recreational facilities on the premisses.
Self Catering Townhouses and Duplex Apartments
Accommodation in fully self catering townhouses in secure safety complex. Everything is supplied, you only need to bring your clothes and beach/pool towels. The perfect solution for a great affordable holiday.
Self Catering Cottage, Chalet or Granny Flat Accommodation
Self catering, usually free-standing cottage(s) or chalet(s) with kitchen(s) in a garden or bush setting. Generally small with limited leisure facilities.
This section includes 'granny flats' on residential properties, usually limited to 1 or 2 units (seldom more) that may sleep 2-6 persons. It needs to be completely seperated from the owner/landlord preferrably with own private entrance.
Self Catering Resorts and Camping Accommodation
Self catering accommodation consisting of chalets, cottages or apartments. Extensive recreational facilities like swimming, tennis, squash, boating, horse-riding etc. and generally quite large. May have caravan and/or camping sites.
Self Catering Guesthouse or Bed & Breakfast Combination Accommodation
Many guest houses, bed & breakfasts and even hotels offer rooms or apartments with full self catering or semi-self catering facilities in the establishment or on the premisses. Semi- self catering will be a small kithenette with microwave, small fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, crockery & cutlery for the number of persons that it caters for.
4-5 Star Accommodation
Here you will find only the highest standard of accommodation in all categories, from guest houses to self catering establishments. Details of any grading should be clearly stated.
