Grading
Accommodation Africa Online supports all efforts to improve the general quality and standards of the South African tourism industry. We understand that the greater the levels of service are from those properties and service providers listed on our website, the greater the referrals and returning customer base will be. Accordingly, we want to encourage accommodation providers to acquire grading or approval from acknowledged tourism support services like:
- Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA)
- AA-Travel
- Portfolio
- or local tourism authorities.
The objective of the national grading scheme is to assist in the improvement in the overall quality of accommodation and services in South Africa. The aim is not to police or impose strict and inflexible guidelines on grading. The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa undertakes to work with establishments to improve quality in the tourism industry.
The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa has secured the exclusive use of the "star" symbol to denote standards in the Tourism Industry. Establishments are assessed and given a "star" rating. Click here to view brief descriptions of what each star level represents.

In today's Travel Market a positive review from a past guest is marketing gold and can lead to an increase in sales and improve your overall online profile. Trip Advisor, the world's leading source of independent travel reviews, shows how to work with them to leverage traveller opinions.
We do realize that there are many excellent non-graded or non-affiliated properties and we would gladly consider self-assessed applications supported by reputable referalls or testimonials.
We reserve the right to insist on an acceptable, independant inspection of the property to satisfy ourselves of the facilities and standard of the furnishings. Any inspection fee and travelling expenses will be for the applicant's own account. Alternatively, a telephonic approval procedure may be considered if the application is supported by industry partners and/or visitors who previously used the facility. Final decisions as to the approval and maintenance of any listing rests in the sole discretion of Accommodation Africa.
Any valid complaints or disputes we may receive will be referred to the respective governing body and/or property owner for investigation and appropriate action.
