Shackletons is situated in south-western Zambia on the Upper Zambezi River near the village of Mwandi (meaning a place of ‘plenty fish’).
Shackletons provides access to 130km of the Upper Zambezi River, called ‘God’s Highway’ by David Livingstone. Shackletons is open all year round, even when the river floods its banks each year to form the Zambezi floodplains.
The Lodge accommodates 12 people in thatched, en-suite chalets with private teak decks overlooking the Zambezi. The swimming pool, sun downer deck, lounge, open dining area, and riverside bar provide guests with unparalleled vistas of the mighty Upper Zambezi River.
At Shackletons you, your family and your friends will be totally spoilt by the Zambian culture, the pristine waters of the Upper Zambezi, the peace and tranquillity of the Lodge, the exciting fishing, the abundant bird life, and the unsurpassed friendly hospitality of the Shackletons people.
peace and tranquillity...
Shackletons Upper Zambezi Lodge has recently been renovated to surpass any fishing lodge in the area. Our standards exceed those set internationally. Our owner managed lodge is small, sleeping 12 people, ensuring privacy and focused hospitality. Our 6 double, ensuite chalets, with private decks, face on to spectacular views of the Zambezi River.
The sundowner's deck, lounge, dining area and riverside bar provide a space where our guests can unwind and relax after a successful days fishing. Serene vistas are enjoyed from all corners of the lodge and as the sunsets the embers from the fire pit glow. Wonderful meals are prepared, without any shortage for our hungry guests. We have our own vegetable garden, the bread is freshly baked and a braai at the end of the day sends you to bed with a full tummy and high expectations for the following day.
Our gardens are planted with indigenous flowers and trees attracting a multitude of birds. Spend a day in camp watching birds or by the pool with a good book and unwind from city stress.
Besides the nearby Lozi village of Mwandi, there are no other Zambian villages or lodges on this vast stretch of water.
Shackletons is flanked by sandy river banks, reed beds, water lilies, riverine forests, woodlands and flooded grass plains.
This 130 km stretch of pristine water and the surrounding area is what makes Shackletons ideal for:

• Birding
• Tree spotting
