Past & Present
In 1865, Boontjiesrivier (as the farm was originally known) was the home of a French Huguenot, Hermanus François le Roux.
At the time of the Great Kimberly Diamond Rush, the farm supplied their produce via voortrekker wagon to the mass of hopeful prospectors in Kimberley. Some of the 11 le Roux children were born on these round trips, which took could take up to 4 months.
Today, olive trees and aromatic lavender bushes have replaced the burnt vineyard and apricot trees. The original barn has been renovated and now boasts the new Lodge Restaurant which offers peaceful views over the olive orchards while guests breakfast and dine.
Our three luxury cottages are separated into six spacious en suite guest rooms. Each has their own fireplace, a bathroom with heated floors, a Victorian bathtub as well as an outside shower. The ceilings are open reed and lie under thatched roofing. From the veranda or shower, guests have a spectacular view of the Karoo Koppies, Waboomberg Mountains and four hectares olive orchard.
A honeymoon suite with a four-poster double bed is also available.
The newly built chapel lies on the slopes of the Langeberg Mountains, about 100 metres above the Lodge Restaurant. Besides providing a landmark from afar, the chapel is the perfect place for peaceful reflection and weddings as well. Frescos on the interior walls of the chapel have been hand-painted by artist Mark Hill.
There are 4 hiking trails on the farm. These are relatively easy and each one offers its own particular interest.
