Gansbaai - De Kelders. An intimate guest house on top of the Cliffs, offers you whale watching from the comfort of your bed!
Your Hosts Stanley & Lainy Carpenter welcome you to the Whale Song Lodge overlooking the picturesque Walker Bay with views of the coastline stretching from the white sand dunes of "Die Plaat" past Hermanus all the way to Cape Point.
Why Whalesong Lodge guest house?
De Kelders is north facing (remember, this is the sunny side in the southern hemisphere) and one of the few places on the Cape South Coast of South Africa where you are able to enjoy sundowners while watching the sun set over the sea without the off-shore summer winds worrying you. As the sun sets an unforgettable southern night sky will enfold with no street lights polluting the view of a myriad of stars...
But the biggest reason is (and believe us these southern right whales are big!) there is no place in South Africa were you are able to watch the whales up-close from the shore, as you do from the De Kelders cliffs and Whale Song Lodge accommodation is on those cliffs only 70m from sea, you can't get closer unless you go for a swim!
And did we mention that we:
• organise excursions for you, like great white shark diving or shark viewing tours
• serve delicious dinners accompanied by fine wines
• go all the way to stock what you like for breakfast
• fell asleep in various furniture stores until we selected the correct beds
• disclose the location of secluded bays at our doorstep for save swimming
• direct you to some of the most beautiful beaches the Cape has to offer
• inform you about where to shop in Hermanus, whom to greet in Gansbaai and which fisherman not to believe a single word.
Whalesong Lodge guesthouse was rebuilt from scratch in 2003 to share the abundance this coastline has to offer with a selected few, we hope you will be one of them.
See you at Whale Song!

We both have a passion for good (South African) food both preparing and enjoying. We strive to cook every second night. To give us an opportunity to share our passion with you, in an informal surrounding and with stunning view over Walker bay. Guests are welcome to join in the preparation, preferably with a glass of fine wine.
With Gansbaai's fishing harbour only minutes away there is an ample supply of fresh seafood. The menu normally comprises of either three or four courses with emphases on local seafood and anything fresh & interesting we can find. With the highlight being one of Lainy's mouth watering desserts.
For the nights we do not cook, there are various restaurants in the area we can recommend and book for you.
Whalesong Lodge offers a large comfortable open plan lounge & dinning room with a large glass folding door leading out to a wooden deck. We spend hours here, enjoying a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc, watching the Southern Right Whale play in the bay.
